Read the passage: Report: Our 'Bins and Biodiversity' action project
Class 2C wanted to tackle litter around their school in Athlone. Here is part of their report. Step 1: We surveyed 120 students. 74 said litter at the bus stop bothered them. We counted 63 pieces of litter on one Monday morning. Step 2: We divided into teams: research, publicity, contact and clean-up. Step 3: The contact team emailed the council's environment officer and our local councillor to ask for a second bin at the bus stop. The publicity team made posters and a short video for the school website. Step 4: We held two lunchtime clean-ups and planted a wildflower patch with the Green-Schools committee. Step 5: Four weeks later we counted 21 pieces of litter on a Monday. The council installed a new bin. What went wrong: the video was finished late, and two team members did most of the work in the publicity team.
